Sunday Ride 25-06-08 - Nepean Sportsplex
Upcoming Club Events:
Please note that you must be a current OBC member to participate in any events.
Please take a look in club calendar to see what upcoming events you may wish to take part in. There is something going on almost every day, and new, recurring activities are still coming on-line for the season.
Weeks until RLCT : 2! Registration is now closed.
If you haven't arranged yet your riding companions for Rideau Lakes, no time like the present! Start asking around in your groups; just say that you are looking for company. Strongly suggest not saying: "I may need a Sherpa to carry me"!
Also remember that many many volunteers are needed for the RLCT to function. Even if only for a couple of hours and whether or not you are riding the tour.
Please tap the Volunteer button on the tour website to see how you can help out. Seriously, if you have even a couple of hours. Thanks!
🚴♀️🚴🚴♀️🚴
Are you interested in having GPS voice navigation on your group rides?
If you want to keep track of your rides, as you go, join the exciting world of being told where to go by an ethereal, bossy voice!
Every OBC member is entitled to use the Ride With GPS tool, at no cost, for any route that is found in the OBC's RWGPS route library. (Whether or not you are on a club ride).
Access this document to get specific instructions on how.
REMINDERS FOR RIDERS:
Group ride participajnts must have previously attended an OBC Group Riding Clinic (GRC).
Check the calendar to see when the next GRC is scheduled. There MAY be one scheduled for the coming week.
Is your bike ship-shape? Are you carrying basic tools and equipment? Be sure all the critical components -- brakes, drive train; tires -- are in good shape and thus ensure that your bike won't be inclined to leave you in tears at the side of the road. On all club rides (in fact, whenever you ride), please carry, minimally, a spare tube, tire levers, air pump (or equivalents for tubeless). Having bright, day-time running lights (front & back) is also a really good idea to improve your visibility to other road users.
Sunday Ride
***LAUNCH TIME CHANGE TO 8:00 AM ***
Please note that you must be a current OBC member to participate in any events.
Description : Road Ride
Start Location : Nepean Sportsplex
Start Time : 8:00 AM Departure - gather 7:30 -- 7:45
Setting off to the south and the west this week. Please have a look at the maps to see where you might wish to stop for refreshment and a run behind a tree (or not!).
With longer routes, I am adding an additional (slower) pace to longer rides when it makes sense. Send me an email if you know of a few people that want a slower pace added for a longer ride; remember, though, that every group needs a ride leader.
Bonne route!
*Group composition will depend on having a Ride Leader, and interest for specific Distance/Speed combinations, as determined by who shows up at the start point.
Sorry, registration closed.
Available Rides
A (132 km, 407 m elevation gain)
It's a long way to go to find some new roads. Newmanville? What's in Newmanville?
Streetview tells me pavement, and country lanes.
Rest stops: Burritt's Rapids (km 59.4; assuming washrooms by locks? Boathouse Cafe across the street from locks.); there might be a portapotty in Maplewood Park (km 76.3); Kemptville (around km 87); Osgoode (Foodland and ice cream shop); Manotick.
B (103 km, 564 m elevation gain)
Venture to the west with a partial preview of a section of the RLCT Classic route. Rest stops in Stittsville, if desired, and the main stop at the Timmy's in Richmond (km 71.7). Note the routing in Barrhaven to avoid the roundabout at the intersection of Cambrian & Longfields.
C (77 km, 434 m elevation gain)
Venture south to the end of Manotick Station Rd. then loop around Osgoode, cross the river then return through Barrhaven. Note the changes to the left turn from Cambrian Rd onto Longfields which are to avoid the roundabout.
Rest stops: Osgood is an obvious place but it is a little off the route. Have a look at the map to see how you can get to it easily. Also the Ultramar station on roger Stevens Drive. Access by continuing straight at about km 44.8 for 600m.
D (54 km, 298 m elevation gain)
A clockwise loop to Richmond (e.g. Timmy's) and/or Stittsville for refreshment. If no stop is desired in Stittsville, feel free to turn right onto Fernbank Rd at ~km 32.7. this will reduce the route length by about 2-3 kms.
