Sunday Ride 25-07-27 - Parc Moussette
Sunday Ride
Please note that you must be a current OBC member to participate in any events.
Description : Road Ride
Start Location : Parc Moussette
Start Time : 8:00 AM Departure - gather 7:30 -- 7:45
NOTE: I've moved the B and C rides off of some pathways at the start, the B more than the C. Bd Taché shouldn't be very busy on Sunday morning.
Heading for the hills
As I did last year, for these rides I am issuing a:
!!!WARNING!!! HILLS AHEAD
Please be conservative in your choice of ride this week, there is a great deal of climbing. The relaxed option is the D ride to Wakefield.
When you sign up, do not "THINK" that you can make it. "KNOW" that you can make it.
A: 1763 m of climbing
B: 1279 m of climbing
C: 992 m of climbing
D: a mere 680 m (but that truly seems like way too high a number. It seems to me like you do more climbing to get from Moussette to Chelsea than between Chelsea and Wakefield).
I'm expecting quite a crowd choosing the D ride, in which case we can create several groups with slightly different routes with more or less climbing, more or less velocity.
Ride leaders, as always, will use their judgement to alter the route, as needed.
!!!ON THE BEACH!!!
If it is a hot day, there is respite if you wish. At the foot of chemin Gleneagle, in Chelsea, right beside the yacht club, there is a beach of sorts where you can jump into the river, in your kit, and seriously cool off. It's right beside the rail trail and just off the 105, close to chemin Scott. If you are overheated, I can't recommend it enough.
Bonne route!
*Group composition will depend on having a Ride Leader, and interest for specific Distance/Speed combinations, as determined by who shows up at the start point.
Sorry, registration closed.
Available Rides
A (135 km, 1763 m elevation gain)
Champlain / Perkins / Wakefield
B (108 km, 1279 m elevation gain)
Perkins / Cantley / Wakefield. There will be hills. Lots and lots of hills. A mountain's worth, in fact. It is a beautiful and very scenic route but don't sign up unless you are sure you can meet the challenge of 4,200 feet of up!
C (82 km, 992 m elevation gain)
Cantley / Wakefield. This is likely the most challenging C ride of the season. There is plenty of climbing but it is a beautiful ride if you are up for it. Please be up for it if you join. How can you tell? This route in the Gatineau Park to Champlain Lookout has about 3/4 of the climbing that you'll need to do for the ride through Cantley to Wakefield and back. So, if you fear a loop in the park, then I recommend the relatively leisurely and very scenic D ride to Wakefield.
D (67 km, 680 m elevation gain)
Rail trail between Chelsea and Wakefield. It doesn't get any easier than this route. In this case, the elevation gain is very gradual; it's hard to believe the elevation number calculated by RWGPS. Where the trail meets River Rd, northbound, the option is to continue on the trail or enjoy the better river views from the brand new pavement. If you get hot on the return, there is a beautiful place to jump into the Gatineau River -- yes, in your cycling kit -- and cool off. That's at Gleneagles Dr, right at the point where you exit the trail. The river will be plenty warm enough but cool enough to refresh. The group can decide, upon departure, if it prefers to head north within Gatineau Park -- additional climbing -- or take the route drawn which followss Bd Cité-des-jeunes. Given the amount of climbing on offer to A, B and C riders, it could be that we'll have many D riders this week and can create several groups taking slightly different routes. I have also added a 25-27 group this week.
