About the event

The Dam Gravel Ride

The ride begins by crossing the Gatineau River on the Wakefield Covered Bridge and heading north along the relatively flat and scenic roads beside the Gatineau River. A highlight is crossing the Paugan Dam with spectacular views of the rushing water. The route is very quiet and scenic, with a mix of farmland, deep forest, and rolling hills.

OBC Gravel Ride Pace Group Policy

The OBC Gravel Ride Pace Group Policy is intended to promote safe, organized, and enjoyable rides for all participants.

Pace Group Selection

Pace groups are established to bring together riders of similar ability and expected riding speed. Riders are expected to register for and ride with the pace group that best reflects their normal riding pace under typical gravel conditions.

Riders should not select a pace group based on a desired or aspirational pace. Selecting an appropriate group helps maintain group cohesion, reduces unnecessary regrouping, and contributes to the safety and enjoyment of all participants.

Pace Guidelines

Published pace ranges are intended as guidelines only and are not guaranteed. Actual average speeds may vary due to terrain, gravel surface conditions, weather, route profile, mechanical issues, and the composition of the group.

Ride Leaders are responsible for managing the pace of their groups and may adjust the riding speed or regrouping frequency as conditions require.

Group Formation

All riders will depart together as a single group. During the opening kilometres of the ride, participants will naturally separate into smaller groups based on their individual comfort level and riding pace.

Riders are expected to ride at a pace that is comfortable and sustainable. There is no expectation that participants maintain the speed of the lead group. Riders should join and remain with a group that matches their abilities and riding style.

Rider Responsibilities

Participants are expected to:

  • Select the pace group that best matches their typical riding speed.

  • Ride within their abilities and comfort level.

  • Follow the direction of Ride Leaders.

  • Respect other riders and contribute to a safe, supportive, and inclusive riding environment.

Riders who are uncertain about the most appropriate pace group should consult a Ride Leader before the ride begins.

Program Objective

The OBC Gravel Program encourages participation by riders of all abilities. Adhering to these pace group guidelines helps create compatible riding groups, improves safety, and enhances the overall experience for all participants.
