*** NOTE START TIME PUSHED TO 10:00 DUE TO COOL OVERNIGHT TEMPS FORECAST ***

Sorry for the delay in getting the coming Sunday's rides posted; I have been underwhelmed &, indeed, despondent by the quality of the weather that our handsomely paid forecasters are offering. Are they in contract negotiations? ;)

The forecast has, however, made a change for the better in the last few days, so we'll keep our fingers crossed. Cool, still, but some sun in the offing.

A reminder that, as usual, I'm starting the season off with rides that are a little shorter.

Also, in the early season, pay particular attention to:

  • drivers who need to relearn what bicycles are;

  • remembering what road etiquette is;

  • detritus on the roads and, ESPECIALLY, wee bits of gravel around bends on paved roads;

  • other riders who are just awaking from hibernation and our new members who may be brand new to group riding;

  • keeping yourself warm, fed and watered during the rides; and,

  • when you stop -- for a flat, a discussion, a snack -- get off the road!

It takes a few weeks for everyone to get back into form; please be forgiving.

COFFEE STOPS

In Carp, the new name on the old building on Donald B Munro, just east of Carp Rd, is Skylark Cafe. Folks may like to patronize this establishment; I received confirmation that it will be open on Sunday. Alice's is still there but many cyclists have long memories of being banished for a few years and avoid it.

In Almonte, there's Equator Coffee (use your RLCT swag coupon) and many other refueling establishments.

Ride leaders needed!

Bonne route!

Please contact the organizer if you have questions.

Sorry, registration closed.

Available rides

A (114 km, 654 m elevation gain)

You'll be happy to know I kept in mind where the toilets will be open this early in the season. Rides to Fitzroy can wait.

You might be inclined to make changes, here and there, to shorten the Almonte diversions and maybe return via Carp.

Registration details are no longer available for this event.

B (81 km, 466 m elevation gain)

To ensure you can get fed & (de)coffeed en route, here's a simple out & back to Almonte. Feel free to get through Kanata in whatever way you wish. Do you have your Equator Coffee coupon from a recent RLCT ride?

As always, remember that, on this route, there is about 5 km of gravel/ unpaved road between Upper Dwyer Hill Rd and Appleton Side Rd.

On the way out along Herzberg Rd (km 7.5) I recommend getting off the roadway onto the paved path simply because it will reduce confusion for you and drivers as you approach the crossing of March Rd.

Registration details are no longer available for this event.

C (58 km, 376 m elevation gain)

Here's a season-opening loop over the Carp Ridge and back through Carp for a (de)caffeinatiion stop. If you wish to shorten the ride a bit, and get to the coffee faster, turn left at km 29 onto Carp Rd. You choose where you want to stop for refresshment in Carp. Recommend Skylark Cafe, just east of Carp Rd on Donald B. Munro Dr.

Do watch out for potholes, grown over the winter, along old Carp Rd.

Registration details are no longer available for this event.

D (43 km, 291 m elevation gain)

A regular run to Carp for coffee. Recommend Skylark Cafe, just east of Carp Rd on Donald B. Munro Dr (previously Eldon's Pantry) or Alices.

Watch for bike-eating potholes on Old Carp Rd; I'm sure the road didn't improve over winter.

Registration details are no longer available for this event.
