Sunday Ride 26-04-05 - Nepean Sportsplex
๐ SundayAbout the event
Gentle reminder: prior to joining any OBC group rides:
You must be a current club member;
You must have taken the Group Riding Clinic - check this event calendar - (or be an experienced group rider who can safely ride in a peleton).
Note for riders and leaders: road edges (e.g. Woodroffe bike lanes) will likely not have been swept, yet. Be cautious and perhaps ride single to allow riders to more easily dodge junk on the road. Let's have no flats today!
Welcome to our returning riders and our new members!
Are you and your bike ready to go?
Well, sports fans... the weatherpeople have been steadily improving the weather outlook for the day. The latest forecast is sunny (EDIT: Not any more!) and 12 degrees, which would be fantastic. That means I need to get off my duff, get my bike off the trainer, replace a chain, swap my tires back-to-front and -- oh, yeah -- post some routes.
NOTE: recognizing that 1) the nights are still quite cool, 2) some of of us leave home an hour in advance to ride to the starting point, and 3) the routes are shorter in the early season, I'm pushing back the starting time for this Sunday to 10AM.
At this point, it's safe to say that we are a GO to launch the season on April 5th BUT where the forecast for April 5th, as of yesterday (Mar 26), was 12C & sunny, it is now 12C & rainy. Good grief! A year ago, the weather forced cancellation of the season opener; hopefully, that will not be repeated this year.
Keep an eye on this listing for updates.
If you are interested in helping out and being a ride leader this season please let Ken know at kentheobcrm@gmail.com. See the calendar for early season ride leader training and, for new riders, group riding clinics.
Sorry, registration closed.
Available rides
A (101 km, 420 m elevation gain)
Welcome back, As.
Start you off off with 100km loop to Kemptville. Note that I expect the park toilet, marked on the map, will be closed; I'll leave it to you to find an alternate at the bakery or one of the other restaurants in town.
Note that at km 74.4, you can continue east for 1km to get to the Timmy's at the Ultramar.
Registration details are no longer available for this event.
B (74 km, 425 m elevation gain)
Welcome back, Bees!
Here's a loop through Richmond to Munster-ish, then return via Stittsville. You can choose where you wish to stop. Note that the turns in Richmond assume a stop at Tim Horton's; ride leaders may choose somewhere else to go.
Registration details are no longer available for this event.
C (57 km, 328 m elevation gain)
Don't worry; I'm going easy on you. First day back and all.
You're heading through Barrhaven to Richmond, then Manotick, then return. Your choice to stop for coffee in Richmond (Tim Horton's or CC's or ?? - see the map) or Manotick (Tim Horton's, Morning Owl or ??).
I believe you should see fresh-ish pavement on Spratt Rd. You're welcome! Mind that left turn from Mitch Owens.
Registration details are no longer available for this event.
D (41 km, 281 m elevation gain)
A simple route through a fancy, rural subdivision before heading to Manotick for coffee. Note the short section of pathway at km 18.7; will the snow be melted?
Choose either Tim Horton's or the upscale Morning Owl. Ride leader will want to decide which before turning north on River Road and coming up to Mitch Owens.
Ride leaders will also want to be ready -- i.e. prime your riders -- for left turns off of Longfields (km 8) and from River Rd onto Bridge St (potentially, km 26) and onto Earl Armstrong (km 33.25).
