Sunday Ride 26-05-31 - Nepean Sportsplex
๐ SundayAbout the event
My apologies for the delay in posting the rides.
REMINDER: all riders must have taken the OBC Group Riding Clinic to participate in group rides. Significant, current group riding experience can be acceptable in lieu; contact the event organizer to discuss.
1 week to Rideau Lakes Cycle Tour.
A note to all participants from the RLCT routes guy: Major, impassable-by-bike construction at a key intersection -- the hwy 15/rte 42 intersection in Crosby -- has created significant detours for all routes but the Cruise: a few kms have been unavoidably added to the Classic, Century, both gravel rides; the Challenge has had a planned reroute onto some lovely new roads cancelled, sadly, and has been shifted back to the traditional routing between Westport and Kingston.
Also, a reminder for particpants to peruse the two technical guides -- some logistical info plus getting up and running with Ride With GPS and accessing the route maps -- for the event which are available OVER HERE. There is a similar technical guide for OBC group riders, such as yourself, to get connected to RWGPS. That doc is available OVER THERE.

Volunteer's sought and needed!!
Your club, and all the activities it organizes, run on volunteers and it needs us all to pitch in, whether a little or a lot; every hour helps.
This & that
HOT OFF THE PRESS!! (I and likely you just received the email)
Ontario Cycling is offering a no-cost leadership program for women OC members, including ride leadership. Check it out.
On to the ride... but first...
Ladies and gentlemen, we are in need of your additional participation. It doesn't require much more effort than you are presently exherting.
Every group that departs must have a Ride Leader. If there is no ride leader for a group, there is no ride for those individuals. It's quite simple. We need more experienced riders to step up and make sure the rides continue uninterrupted.
Please keep an eye out for future ride leader training and participate.
Event Description
Heading southerly from the Nepean Sportsplex. Returning to the 'plex so soon because arrangements had been made for Bushtukah (Stittsville) folks to come by, before the ride, and share info regarding food, nutrition and hydration. That is apparently not happening this weekend, after all.
Start Location : Nepean Sportplex
Start Time : 9:00 AM Departure - gather: 8:30 - 8:45
Bonne route!
Sorry, registration closed.
Available rides
A (137 km, 440 m elevation gain)
Merrickville, Kemtpville, Osgoode.
Registration details are no longer available for this event.
B (100 km, 410 m elevation gain)
Variations on the theme of Kemptville, via a rail trail approach to Osgoode. A few new choices of roads, here. The Osgoode Link rail trail is very good and firm. Most road tires should have no issue. It's a relaxing alternative to the increasingly busy Nixon Dr. One can stop at the No Go Coffee Co in Osgoode; the Kars Ultramar (off-piste); various Kemptville options. Even Manotick.

C (79 km, 437 m elevation gain)
A variation on the Osgoode theme. Head south to visit the No Go Coffee Company, if you like, before heading north on the rail trail to avoid Nixon Dr, which can be busy. Leader can choose other coffee stop and also to stay on the pavement, if desired. Return via the Jeckyll/Hyde William McEwen Dr: "It was the best of roads; it was the worst of roads". Take it easy on Borrisokane Dr and get off it as soon as you can.

D (48 km, 320 m elevation gain)
Well, it's difficult to find good roads out of the Sportsplex and keeping the distnce to 40km. Alas, I have this one of 48km length. Perhaps extra breaks enroute are in order. The usual refreshment stop is the Morning Owl -- or elsewhere -- in Manotick. A secondary stop is 2 km off-piste at the Kars Ultramar, if the situation is desperate!
