Sunday Ride 26-07-05 - Airport NRC
About the event
NOTE NEW LAUNCH TIME OF 8:00AM.
The last airport launch was cancelled due to dodgy weather; this Sunday is looking much more promising.
REMINDERS FOR RIDERS:
Group ride participants must have previously attended an OBC Group Riding Clinic (GRC).
Check the calendar to see when the next GRC is scheduled.
Is your bike ship-shape? Are you carrying basic tools and equipment? Be sure all the critical components -- brakes, drive train; tires -- are in good shape and thus ensure that your bike won't be inclined to leave you in tears at the side of the road. On all club rides (in fact, whenever you ride), please carry, minimally, a spare tube, tire levers, air pump (or equivalents for tubeless). Having bright, day-time running lights (front & back) is also a really good idea to improve your visibility to other road users.
Sunday Ride
Please note that you must be a current OBC member to participate in any events.
Description : Road Ride
Start Location : Airport (NRC)
Start Time : 8:00 AM Departure - gather 7:30 -- 7:45
This week, we head south from the wind tunnel for, really, the first time, the weather being as it was. No surprises, really (unless you count a left turn onto Mitch Owens, instead of a right turn a surprise)
Bonne route!
*Group composition will depend on having a Ride Leader, and interest for specific Distance/Speed combinations, as determined by who shows up at the start point.
Sorry, registration closed.
Available rides
A (137 km, 591 m elevation gain)
A newly drawn route over mostly known roads heading southeast to the turnaround point of Chesterville. Several options for stops; take a look at the map for a couple that I have mentioned. Note that the 1.5km of Boundary Rd (km 28.5) will likely be quite busy.
Registration details are no longer available for this event.
B (104 km, 389 m elevation gain)
Ride south to the turnaround point of Winchester, where you will find various options for a break. Note that the side trip into Metcalfe is primarily for a rest stop and using the portapotty in the city park. If your group is comprised of all camels, you might choose to forego the relief stop and, at km 30.4, continue heading south-ish on 9th Line, off piste, and pickup the route, again, in Ormond; that saves you 4km. See the RWGPS map. The return is a long stretch of trees (Stagecoach / Blanchfield / Manotick Station / Bowesville) but no toilets. I STRONGLY SUGGEST A COMFORT STOP IN WINCHESTER. Osgoode is not that far off the return route, if needed. Just have an idea, beforehand, of how to get there.
I've heard different stories as to whether or not the tart (as in food) shop in Halville (Loughlin's Country Store) will allow you to use the washroom. Don't even ask if you didn't buy something. (You shoulda gone at the Timmy's on your way out of Winchester).
Registration details are no longer available for this event.
C (78 km, 357 m elevation gain)
A clockwise loop over known roads, with a couple of minor twists. Note the rest stops in Metcalfe (portapotty-in-the-park and convenience store) and Greely (Foodland and fast food). Note that the return from Metcalfe includes a km or two on a paved shoulder along Bank St.
Registration details are no longer available for this event.
D (40 km, 180 m elevation gain)
A simple CW loop, using some new roads, through Greely, where you will find toilets and food.
Use caution on the left turn onto Mitch Owens.
There is no significance to the two-tone map route!
