Sunday Ride 26-07-12 - Andrew Haydon Park

About the event

Note that the location has changed to Andrew Haydon Park.

A privacy reminder: if you don't want anyone not logged in to see your name on a ride registration list, go to your profile on obcrides.ca and change your privacy settings.

NOTE NEW LAUNCH TIME OF 8:00AM.

REMINDERS FOR RIDERS:

Group ride participants must have previously attended an OBC Group Riding Clinic (GRC). New OBC members who are experienced group riders can contact the ride coordinator to plead your case for an exemption.

Check the calendar to see when the next GRC is scheduled.

Is your bike ship-shape? Are you carrying basic tools and equipment? Be sure all the critical components -- brakes, drive train; tires -- are in good shape and thus ensure that your bike won't be inclined to leave you in tears at the side of the road. On all club rides (in fact, whenever you ride), please carry, minimally, a spare tube, tire levers, air pump (or equivalents for tubeless). Having bright, day-time running lights (front & back) is also a really good idea to improve your visibility to other road users.

Sunday Ride

Please note that you must be a current OBC member to participate in any events.

Description : Road Ride

Start Location : Andrew Haydon Park

Start Time : 8:00 AM Departure - gather 7:30-7:45

The first time since May, we are back in the west end. Many will get to ooooh and aaaaah over the new pavement on Old Carp Road. Maybe yearn for the bygone days of potholes, depending on how many cars have discovered it.

Bonne route!

*Group composition will depend on having a Ride Leader, and interest for specific Distance/Speed combinations, as determined by who shows up at the start point.

Please contact the organizer if you have questions.

Sorry, registration closed.

Available rides

A (130 km, 770 m elevation gain)

JULY !! - ROUTE UPDATED WITH RIDER FEEDBACK

Through Kanata to Carp; Diamondview and Kinburn Rd to Pakenham; south via Almonte and Richmond/Franktown Rds to Munster then return via Flewellyn/Hunt Club/ Cedarview.

Registration details are no longer available for this event.

B (105 km, 605 m elevation gain)

A clockwise loop to Ashton, Almonte, Blakeney and, because we have to try out some brand new pavement where potholes used to reign, Carp. Several long stretches of pavement await, to either get the afterburners, or the in-flight beverage service, working. Familiarize yourself with the route at the start, because you shift onto a bike path about 1km from heels-up, where you transition from Holly Acres Rd to the bike path. Also, randonneurs experienced in transiting Almonte will want to note the early left turn approaching Almonte from the south and, after the turn, how to get to Equator Coffee, if that's where you want to take a break. Lots of other options in Almonte for a break; I just don't know what they are (with the exception of the Barley Mow, right on the river). Return via Panmure Rd and, eventually Carp, where they serve ice cream and other treats. Finally, return from Carp along the newly re-surfaced Old Carp Rd.

Registration details are no longer available for this event.

C (75 km, 469 m elevation gain)

A loop up scenic Stonecrest and Marchurst roads, with a turn-around point of Kinburn (gas station and convenience store). Return via Donald B Munro to Carp (Skylark Cafe, perhaps), then the newly paved Old Carp Road back to civilization, such as it is.

Registration details are no longer available for this event.

D (43 km, 291 m elevation gain)

Reroute: Due to newly received info regarding damage to March Valley Road, on the way north from Kanata, plus the likely lack of ride leaders for the D groups this Sunday, I've replaced the ride to Pinhey's Point with a basic out and back to Carp. This way, D riders can more easily head off on their own on a simpler route. Likely coffee stop is Skylark Cafe.

Updated Note: As of Thursday, 2:00, it appears that our two, stalwart D ride leaders, Rachel and Alan, are unavailable this weekend. Have we a 3rd leader in the crowd?
