Sunday Ride 26-08-09 - Nepean Sportsplex
Registration for this event is closed.
About the event
IN CONSIDERATION FOR YOUR OBC GROUP RIDE COLLEAGUES, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING:
There is meaning to having and leaving your name on the registration list for a ride. The basic meaning is a commitment to show up.
Your OBC friends depend on that information and it informs their decisions to 1) sign up for a ride, or 2) cancel their registration or to leave their name on the list -- AND THEN SHOW UP.
Ride leaders use that information to inform their decisons as to whether or not to tough out dodgy weather, a sore finger or a lack of sleep and show up because a group is depending on them for the ride to proceed. At the same time, to be very clear, there is no demand that ride leaders put themselves in any potential peril in possibly hazardous conditions just because a ride hasn't been cancelled and a rider remains signed up. Ride leaders, just as riders, are free to withdraw from a ride at their own discretion.
Conversely to #3, riders can check to see if a ride leader has not signed up for / cancelled their registration for a ride and use that info to inform a decision as to whether or not they will leave themselves registered.
Consequently, I ask for your cooperation and appeal to your desire to be considerate of your fellow riders in making the following request:
If you have registered for a ride and decide that you do not want to show up, PLEASE WITHDRAW FROM THE RIDE, on the obcrides.ca site, AT THAT MOMENT OR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AFTER YOU MAKE THE DECISION.
You can withdraw at any time but, if you withdraw shortly before the event, please note that some riders depart home an hour-and-a-half or more before the ride. Therefore, please withdraw from the ride as early as you can.
Withdrawing (cancelling your registration) from a ride could not be simpler. In fact, if you check your event registration confirmation, you will find the instructions for doing so, which I add below:
Need to cancel? No worries at all! You can manage your registration by visiting your profile page.
On the profile page, you will find a button to withdraw. CLICK... DONE!!!
Even simpler, if you are registered for an event you can find a WITHDRAW button at the top of the event page, immediately below the event title.
Last thing: while I have the ability to cancel your registration at your emailed request, I would much prefer that you do it yourself!
Thank you for your attention to this matter! ;)
IronPeople
Felicitations to OBC members who challenged themselves in the Ottawa IronMan this past weekend!
Upcoming Club Events:
Please note that you must be a current OBC member to participate in any events.
Please take a look in club calendar to see what upcoming events you may wish to take part in. There is something going on almost every day, and new, recurring activities are still coming on-line for the season.
REMINDERS FOR RIDERS:
Group ride participants must have previously attended an OBC Group Riding Clinic (GRC).
Check the calendar to see when the next GRC is scheduled. Send a message to the education director (also VP) to express your interest.
Is your bike ship-shape? Are you carrying basic tools and equipment? Be sure all the critical components -- brakes, drive train; tires -- are in good shape and thus ensure that your bike won't be inclined to leave you in tears at the side of the road. On all club rides (in fact, whenever you ride), please carry, minimally, a spare tube, tire levers, air pump (or equivalents for tubeless). Having bright, day-time running lights (front & back) is also a really good idea to improve your visibility to other road users.
Sunday Ride
Please note that you must be a current OBC member to participate in any events.
Description : Road Ride
Start Location : Nepean Sportsplex
Start Time : 8:00 AM Departure - gather 7:30 -- 7:45
Heading south again, but a little west of last week.
Bonne route!
*Group composition will depend on having a Ride Leader, and interest for specific Distance/Speed combinations, as determined by who shows up at the start point.
Available rides
A (140 km, 455 m elevation gain)
A counter-clockwise loop to Merrickville, with a couple of new road segment choices.
Manotick, Merrickville, Osgoode, Kemptville are the likely refreshment stops, with additional toilet facilities in Burritt's Rapids. Check the RWGPS map for the points of interest locations.
Registration details are no longer available for this event.
B (107 km, 407 m elevation gain)
The route has been altered to 102 km -- what you will see in RWGPS -- but still shows in RideHub as 107.
Head to Manotick via Prince of Wales, for a change, then Century Rd/Malakoff Rd to get you down to the Rideau River where you cross and sneak into Kemptville via the back door. Note on the map the specific instructions to get to the Kemptville pool (washrooms) and Bubba & Bugs Coffee Shop back door, where your bike are more safely parked off the street. There is also outside seating out back. There are the usual fast food outlets in Kemptville but I leave it to you to find them.
Return via Osgoode and Manotick. Note that, on the outbound leg, there are really no washrooms between Manotick and Kemptville.
Registration details are no longer available for this event.
C (85 km, 516 m elevation gain)
A slightly longer ride than usual! Up for it?!
Travel south to the end of Woodroffe Ave, then take Prince of Wales a short distance to Rideau Valley Rd N into Manotick. Follow Century Rd/ Malakoff Rd/ Donnelly Rd to Rideau River Provincial Park (comfort stop; just ride past the entry office and follow the road til you find something resembling a Washroom). Return via Kars & Manotick. If desired (decide in advance), you can stop at the Ultramar in Kars (a short distance off piste, west along Roger Stevens Dr) or a cafe of choice in Manotick.
Watch for a few left turns on roads that may be busy; it's worthwhile for all riders to inspect the route in RWGPS to be ready for those turns and other eventualities. Be especially careful of the turn at km 45.2; traffic can move quickly around that bend.
Registration details are no longer available for this event.
D (56 km, 363 m elevation gain)
A bit of a relaxed, scenic tour. Perhaps house hunting, if you're on the market for >4,000 sq ft. Head south along River Rd to Kars (the Ultramar for a break, if desired) then back up 1st Line and another neighbourhood meander through Manotick.
Coffee stops at the Ultramar and/or Manotick.
