Description : Road Ride
Start Location : NRC Airport
Start Time : 10:00 AM Departure - gather 9:30-9:45
Heading south. Enjoy the late season vibe with the early leaves changing.
Be mindful of changing needs to your attire as the mornings can be chilly, even if the sun still warms things sup through the day. Dress in layers that you peel off and store in your pocket or handlebar bag: free your inner banana! If you keep your toes, fingers and ears warm, all will be well.
Bonne route!
*Group composition will depend on having a Ride Leader, and interest for specific Distance/Speed combinations, as determined by who shows up at the start point.
Available rides
A (132 km, 524 m elevation gain)
A shortened version of the ride to Casselman & St ALbert from a couple of months back. St Albert cheese is no longer on the menu.
The route goes near the food options in Casselmana dn Embrun, but you'll want to preview the route to see where you need to go off piste to get to a refreshment stop. Greely is a last option for a break.
note that the portapotties shonw in Vars, Limoges, Embrun rail trail may or may not be closed for the season.
B (99 km, 390 m elevation gain)
A repeat from a couple fo months ago, this is a clockwise loop to Embrun, where I strongly recommend you preview the dipsy-doodle route along the paved rail trail, which is obvious only after having done it a couple of times.
As always, use caution on the 1.5km stretch on Boundary Rd (km 27.5) which will be busy.
I recommend a stop in Embrun at a fast food joint of your choice. There's Tim Hortons / McDonalds (km 45; cheap) or a bougie, pricey smoothie joint (Euhie d'ici, off piste at km 46.3 at the junction of the rail trail and Notre Dame St. The Metcalfe portapotty in Metcalfe may or may not be closed for the season. Be warned. Another stop is possible in Greely.
C (77 km, 393 m elevation gain)
A clockwise route on familiar territory. The stop is in Osgoode at the No Go Cafe, from where you will ride the Osgoode Link Path north to Gough Rd then navigate back via Limebank, Rideau, Bowesville roads. Mind the traffic on Victoria St/ Snake Island Rd. There may or may not still be a portapotty (closed for the season?) in the park in Metcalfe; best not to count on it being there.
D (59 km, 309 m elevation gain)
A straight forward "lollipop" route with Greely as your break point. Be mindful of traffic on Snake Island Rd.
