Carp Countryside Cruise for Early Birds
About the event
In support of the club Social on this date.
Participation in these rides is limited to current OBC members with group riding experience with the OBC.
These are additional rides to complement the 10AM starts posted in a separate event which, with careful matching of speed to distance, will get you back to the vinyard for the social; i.e. 11:30 - 12:30 return. The social commences at noon but the vinyard opens at 11:30. Consequently, to get everyone back in reasonable time, you will not see the buffet of brisknesses... the plenitude of paces... the volume of velocities... that one usually encounters on a Sunday.
There will be facilities at the vinyard to change out of your kit, post ride, and stay awhile at the Social. Note that you need to register separately for the Social for which there are limited spaces available. Register early!
Note that, as you might expect, the posted times are for lift-off. Gather and get organized 15-30 minutes ahead.
Available rides
A (115 km, 757 m elevation gain)
A 115km ride to the Clayton General Store. Or not, if you turn the other way. Scenic and a fair selection of new pavement.
B (96 km, 624 m elevation gain)
Same as the A ride, but no visit to Clayton. Scenic and some fresh-ish pavement.
C (76 km, 489 m elevation gain)
Much like the B route, but with the climb over the Carp Ridge excised. If you're snappy, you might have time to stop for coffee in Almonte.
D (59 km, 402 m elevation gain)
A mod of the C ride to demonstrate to D riders that there is life past Carp! You're going to Almonte (Woo hoo!) in the quickest/ shortest way possible. And back in time for the social.
The usual coffee stop is Equator Coffee (the route is drawn right to it) but you might find a spot closer to "downtown" that doesn't make you backtrack so far. That is, if you are snappy enugh to leave yourselves time for a coffee!
