Reason: Formal cancellation. Weather continues to be bad. Most riders have withdrawn.
About the event
Holiday Monday Ride? What's Up With That?
I have received requests that, due to the lousy weather outlook for Sunday -- i.e. potentially substantial rain -- the ride be moved to Monday, as it is a holiday.
After making inquiries, I have agreed to this and have moved the ride to Monday.
Here's what that means for riders already registered.
Your registration remains in place.
If you wish to ride on Monday, you don't need to do anything.
If you are unable to ride on Monday, please withdraw by going to your profile and clicking *Withdraw*.
If you have not previously registered for Sunday, registration is open for Monday's ride until Sunday at 5PM.
Please note that this is a judgement call on my part. The forecast, at the moment, is much more agreeable for Monday but you'll have to keep your fingers crossed.
REMINDERS FOR RIDERS:
Group ride participants must have previously attended an OBC Group Riding Clinic (GRC).
Check the calendar to see when the next GRC is scheduled. Send a message to the education director (also VP) to express your interest.
RIDE LEADER COURSE:
The course this past Monday evening was fully subscribed; thanks to all who turned out.
If you would like to attend a session, please let me know so that another webinar can be planned if demand warrants.
Monday Ride
Please note that you must be a current OBC member to participate in any events.
Description : Road Ride
Start Location : Airport, NRC
Start Time : 8:00 AM Departure - gather 7:30 -- 7:45
I won't be attending the ride this week, so you folks will self-organize.
I will, however, send the (now) Sunday evening emails.
You're heading south and southeast, today. The only construction I'm aware of is on the bridge into Casselman (alternating traffic light) and the effects of construction for the B's coming into Russell (routing onto the paved rail trail rather than St Pierre Rd which is now a busy detour route).
Bonne route!
*Group composition will depend on having a Ride Leader, and interest for specific Distance/Speed combinations, as determined by who shows up at the start point.
Available rides
A (139 km, 527 m elevation gain)
Actually 144km now. Heading straight over to Casselman then down to the St Albert Cheese factory. Return is a zig-zag all the way to Greely. The return can be easily altered to go through Embrun, Russell and/or Metcalfe.
Registration details are no longer available for this event.
B (99 km, 390 m elevation gain)
An established loop to Russell and Embrun with a few small changes due to construction and just mixing it up a little. Making sure you don't get in a rut. You're welcome.
The first change is when you arrive at Mitch Owens by Farmers Way. You're turning left, this time followed by a right on York's Corners Rd. Watch for busy traffic for a km or two on Boundary Rd northbound. The route to Embrun is via the paved rail trail that leads you first through Russell, where there's Kawartha Dairy ice cream at the Pronto Mart, just 100m off the route. Just sayin'. The rail trail -- paved; shady; relaxing -- is a construction detour to avoid a very busy St Pierre Rd farther east.
There's a turn off the rail trail in Embrun to a plethora of fast food. Or take [whatever] to go and maybe find a table along the rail trail, which you return to after visiting the food court. Then you loop south and west to get to Metcalfe (chic portapotty) then Greely and the other change to keep you out of your rut: turn right off of Parkway onto Stagecoach Rd followed by another LEFT turn onto Mitch Owens followed by a right turn onto Bowesville... who ever heard of such a thing?! From there, it's autopilot back to the barn.

C (79 km, 421 m elevation gain)
A loop to Metcalfe and Osgoode. Your choice where you stop for a break. You can get a coffee/iced tea at The Stable, leaving Metcalfe or something from the convenience store, in Metcalfe. The portapotty is at the back of the park at Victoria St/8th Line intersection in Metcalfe. If you don't wish to stop in Osgoode at the Foodland or Red Dot Cafe or the ice cream purveyors, you can sail past the turn off of Cabin Rd and continue on your way.
Registration details are no longer available for this event.
D (56 km, 331 m elevation gain)
A loop in the middle with strings out either end. Resembling a Lindt candy. Take a break in Kars at the Ultramar or on the way back in Manotick. Or both!
